ABRAHAM A TRUSTED FATHER

“…For I Know Him…” (Gen 18:19)

There is always an unfinished task on the shoulders of a responsible father. As a man grows older and notices more gray hairs than black, one question inevitably arises in his heart: Who will carry on from here once I am gone?

God is abundant in wealth, glory, power, and treasures that are inexhaustible across generations. His desire is to establish a covenant not just with you but with your descendants. However, the challenge God has faced with mankind, from the beginning to the present, is trust.

In Genesis 18:19, God says of Abraham: “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord… that I may bring to pass what I have spoken concerning him.”

Do you realize that there is a promise hanging over your life—one that you must not carry to the grave? This promise is dependent on your obedience. “That he will command his children…” Your failure to follow God’s commands as a father will not only affect your generation but will also have consequences for those that follow.

Can the Lord trust you as a father to guide your household in His ways?

Joshua declared, "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15). This was his commitment to God's covenant, a declaration of trust in God's promises for the future of his household.

As you reflect on your role as a father, remember that your decisions and obedience today shape the lives of those who will follow you.

Remain blessed as you ponder these words.
